Setting up the keyboard for the shoot

When typing in a scene, no suggestions or corrections may interfere: the suggestion bar is visible in the shot, and autocorrect changes the scripted text. Both are switched off in the phone’s keyboard settings – once per device, before the shoot.

iPhone

1. 1Open Settings → General → Keyboard. Shortcut: touch and hold the globe or emoji icon on the keyboard → “Keyboard Settings”.
2. 2Turn off “Auto-Correction”.
3. 3Turn off “Predictive Text” – this hides the word suggestion bar above the keyboard. On iOS 18 and later, also turn off “Show Predictions Inline”.
4. 4Turn off “Check Spelling” – otherwise iOS underlines words in red.

Android – Google keyboard (Gboard)

1. 1Open the Gboard settings: tap the gear icon in the keyboard’s top bar – or go to Settings → System → Languages & input → On-screen keyboard → Gboard.
2. 2Open “Text correction”.
3. 3Turn off “Show suggestion strip” – the bar with word suggestions disappears completely.
4. 4Turn off “Auto-correction”.
5. 5Turn off “Spell check” so no words get marked in red.

Android – Samsung keyboard

1. 1Open Settings → General management → Samsung Keyboard settings – or tap the gear icon in the keyboard toolbar.
2. 2Turn off “Text suggestions” (called “Predictive text” on some versions) – this hides the suggestion bar.
3. 3Turn off “Auto replace” – that is the autocorrect.
4. 4Also turn off any remaining correction options under “Suggest text corrections” or “Smart typing”, if present.

Other keyboards

For any other keyboard app the switches sit in that app’s own settings – turn off “autocorrect”, “word suggestions” / “suggestion bar” and “spell check” there. Menu names vary slightly by manufacturer and version.
